Default Is it possible to use 2001 durango transmission/front end to convert a 2wd ram1500

I just bought a 2001 2wd ram 1500(5.2L) with a bad transmission, but only 84k miles, no rust, came from Texas. I have a 2001 durango 4.7L 4x4 that is parked but still runs well. Can I interchange the transmission, xfer case between the two?

Sweet. I presume the axles will be different, i'm expecting them to be longer for the ram. Are there any other parts that might be interchangeable?

I would say no, Because the 4.7 has a 545RFE transmission and the 5.2 may have either the 44 or 46RE transmission.

I misread that. You would be correct. It will bolt up but won't run need a different TCM

Yeah, I was looking to see if I could do a 2wd to 4wd conversion.

I'll have to find out what tranny is in it and go from there. It goes in reverse just fine, and it'll shift and go in forward gears for a couple minutes, then it only reverse works. I'll do some reading to see if I have other options. Not opposed to buying a reman tran, just looking for other options.

I have another questions, A local guy has a 5 speed out of a 2004-5 ram with a 5.2L. Is it possible to use it with some linkeage changes?

Never made a 5 2L in 04-05 probably a g56 behind a Hemi and yes it will work. Also converting to 4wd isn't worth it and will take a lot of time

Thanks for the info. I'll ditch the 4wd swap idea.

I did confirm that I have a 46RE. Besides putting the A5 5 speed transmission in, what else would I need to do?
