Is buying a 2nd gen in need of an engine worth it?
This is my first post on here, and actually why I made an account
A guy near me is selling a 97 RAM 2500 8.0 V10 4x4 single cab with 270k, and it threw a rod. Another guy nearby is selling a good V10 engine out of a 99. For asking price, both total to about $2100 and it’ll cost $300 to tow it home. I’m wondering if you guys think it’s worth it. To me, it seems it’s worth it, but I figured I’d consult other opinions. Trucks are worth a lot here in Utah, and you won’t find a Cummins under $10k, so that’s why I want the V10, for those who will respond, “get a Cummins.” All my friends like international cars and answer “get a Toyota” or something like that and aren’t much help either
. Any and all answers and opinions appreciated!
EDIT: mfer sold the truck as I was scheduling a time to go get it, but if I come across another, at least I now know it’s worth it

Go for it. If you have the time, place and skill to put it all together, it will certainly end up being worth it, especially if the truck is fairly rust-free. You may need some parts from the old V10 to complete the swap, but looks like you'll have everything you need. If the transmission is an automatic, ask the owner if it was in good condition before the motor went in it.
