So finally got video of noise. It does it at idle now too……last night I removed passenger valve cover and ran it. All rockers/ pushrods look good, all moving in sync nothing looked odd…..removing drivers cover today to check that side

edit….says I uploaded video, but no video being shown?

Upload the video to youtube, then link to it here. I think there are various restrictions on size/format here.

So this may have fixed it….upon running with no valve covers, nothing looked bad, no loose rockers etc…

looked at tsb for plug routing…..I only routed coil away from others….now I cannot get it to make the tapping noise…..going for test drive now

Ok so after about 5 miles coming to stop it downshifted and started ticking bad….so that didn’t cure it….

so I was thinking as well, I had a very very minor tick about a month ago. That’s when I switched to pennzoil 10w30 full synthetic with mopar filter because I read that’s what dealer uses. Since then it’s gotten worse. 2500 miles on this oil and I’m thinking of going back to my Mobil 1. Seems as though once warmed up she’s very loud. Cold barley hear anything.

again oil psi is strong (ran with valve covers off) gauge doesn’t fluctuate. My p0308 has shut itself off no CEL currently. Engine runs strong no bogging or loss of power….but the tick is bad bad when it does do it

Haven’t changed oil yet but I tried to track noise using extension as stethoscope…..very hard to do myself, tick sounds like back of engine, does NOT seem like sound is coming from valve covers, I get the most sound from the tick through the fuel rail? Could an injector cause a loud tick at random times? Because my tick is not constant

I removed belt as well, tick was still there

so about minute and half into it you hear this guys tick from a bad injector. This is exact identical to mine and occurs around same rpm….makes me feel a hell of a lot better, not saying it is injectors but it’s a 20 minute job so I’m going to replace all of them

So I changed oil, no change, I unplugged each injector one by one to see if it would stop, no change still ticking….with Stethoscope going all around tried valve covers, sound didn’t radiate, fuel rail, got loud but wasn’t in sync with the ticking I’m trying to figure out, all around exhaust, intake, heads, oil pan, transmission, still nothing radiated the sound. It sounds like it’s in back of engine in between trans/engine area. I’ve inspected and stethoscoped every inch pretty much, and cannot pinpoint the tick….

im about to give up on this truck and send her to scrap yard
any ideas would be great because I’m stumped
