I have to hold the gas pedal down halfway when cold starting in the morning. And then I have to use the pedal to keep it running at high idle for a few minutes until it will keep idling on it's own. Had the fuel pump replaced recently and the shop said it was pushing 55 psi. Could it be getting to much fuel? Idles and starts fine the rest of the day.

 

When was the last time the throttle body got cleaned? They tend to build up a lot of crap in the IAC well, so it doesn't work as well as it should.

 

Last cleaning was 105,000 miles ago, 205,000 on it now. Replaced the IAC around that time also. 50.00 bucks for Standard IAC from the store and a warm place wouldn't be the worst money I've spent. Or 90.00 from the dealer. I figure if the IAC was working right and carboned up passage ways it would try to open up farther to compensate. Just a guess on my part. Thanks.

 

No reason to replace the IAC. If it's cleaned properly, they last forever. Yours is overdue. Only time I had trouble starting was with cheap O2 sensors (I know, they aren't supposed to do anything on open loop) but I swear new sensors cured it. Anyway, start with a cleaning of the throttle body and IAC. Do not push in the pintle.

 

It will start no problem but fall on it's face. "forever" ? I had to replace mine(180K)because i was tired of keeping my foot on the gas to keep it running.

 

Well, considering how old our trucks are, a little hyperbole was in order. Mine is still good at 23 years old. I just clean it every few years. And since aftermarket junk is, well, junk, it's best to keep the original in working order for as long as possible.

 

I installed an oil catch can a few years back in picasso ('96/318/250K). Before the catch can, I was cleaning the throttle body and IAC a couple'o times a year, seemingly forever idling problems...grrrrr! Nowadays, I'll check it when I change my air filter n the TB is always clean. If ya want extended protection against bothersome idle problems, 20 bucks for a bolt on catch can, is a cheap fix. I mounted mine on a fender well with longer vacuum lines n no more oil in the intake. Seemed to work for me anyhow.

I installed on for a V6 Durango and I was able to use the bracket it came with

 

I brought a kit. I think it was amazon. About $20. But I would recommend longer lines in and out of the oil catch can order to condense the oil from the PCV system. I mounted my can on the finder under the hood.
