96 Dodge Ram 1500 won't stay running
Hey everyone so I have a 1996 dodge ram 1500 and I've never had any problems with her starting up until recently she turned off on me while I was driving down the road no stuttering no nothing just dead then I found out that the wire going into my ignition coil was loose made it three miles down the road and she died it would not start again so I went and replace my distributor cap splice the wire for my ignition coil still nothing check my spark plug wires and I was at 14 volts resistance so when replace those got a new ignition coil put those in now she will start for a minute at the most but as soon as I tried to give it any type of gas it dies instantly on top of that when it does start it runs rough half the time the other half is purrs like a kitten I am just trying to figure out what could possibly be wrong because I am running out of ideas and I'm really stumped I'll spend about a month-and-a-half trying to figure it out so finally decided to post on the Forum
That sounds a lot like a failing crank sensor....... Unfortunately, that's just a guess though. (the symptoms match....) If you decide to replace it, be sure to get a MOPAR sensor. The aftermarket fellers just don't seem to work as well. (and can cause issues of their own.)
Can you "splice" a plug wire? I wouldn't think it would work very well, like trying to splice an antenna with a core and outer shielding...you need the right connectors to keep the two isolated
Anyway, sounds like all wires have been replaced, so that's good.

So I just went back today and ran through all the wires from my PCM checked all connections and everything was good replaced plugs because they were black and corroded and since yesterday she hasn't wanted to start at all just hiccups every now and then like she wants to but can't also strong smell of gas so I know I'm getting fuel not sure if maybe my distrubter cap is bad or my Crankshaft sensor camshaft sensor or wiring in-between the two I'm really at the extent of my knowledge as I don't know anything about electronical
Stomp the gas pedal to the floor, and hold it there, crank the engine. Does it fire? If so, have a look at the coolant temp sensor by the thermostat housing. (yes, it's a pain to get to.....) make sure it is still plugged in, and the connector/sensor haven't disintegrated.
Actually the "ignition module" in dist isn't the worst suspect....
IIRC when it died on our '98 it threw a code.
If you have to swap it a topside creeper is your friend, but not absolutely mandatory

A period is a small dot-shaped punctuation mark that is used at the end of any sentence that is intended to make a statement.
Then people may understand what you are saying. I also say crank sensor if dies while driving it. Does it have any codes?https://www.allpar.com/threads/the-1...ost-1085223107

There are no code showing up. Yesterday I checked my fuel pressure at my fuel rail and I was only showing 20 psi. I think I'm going to try to replace my fuel pump and see what happens there because correct me if I'm wrong but I should be showing 49 to 55 PSI.
