Have a trailer harness on your truck? Have a look at where the trailer harness hits the rear harness.

No relays involved in the rear lighting. Do the front marker lights work ? Check for power at fuse 1 in the inside fuse block.

Download the service manual for your truck from here. Wiring diagrams are in section 8W.

Default Headlight switch hot/melting

I don’t know what I did but I briefly had power to the park tail lamps but then the headlights/tail lights and dash light started flickering and eventually went out again.

the headlight switch is getting hot to the point where It feels like It’s starting to melt.

someone has tried to replace the headlight switch clip/harness so a few of the colors don’t match up. I believe the new wiring clip section is from a 00-01. Is there any wiring differences like a ground is a different wire or something? It gets so hot it makes me think a wire is not making a solid connection or a ground is shorted.

on my original 98 there are two tan wires, a thick one and a skinny one. Can anyone tell me which wire goes to what? “ Left door jam & panel lamp”

i have downloaded it and it helped. but my wire harness was already cut and spliced and there are differences in the wiring. the original wiring has two tan color wires and since it doesnt match the new headlight switch harness i dont know which tan wires go to what... there is a thick and skinny tan wire.... anyone know what they go to? its either the left door jam or the dome light wires...

Wiring diagram should have the pinout for the connector in a later section, and also tell you what gauge wire goes there.

So I’ve looked up the diagram in the service manual and I’m still at a loss for where this break in the connection is. I bought a cable tracker from harbor freight and I’m trying to back trace the wire from then tail light socket.. this is a major headache... so far I’ve back traced the wire from the socket to the the other side of the tail light connector and it’s getting continuity up to that point. I’m guessing the break is further up the harness toward the firewall. Anyone know of a easier way to find a break in continuity of the wire?
