Default 2nd Gen gas tank conversion

I've searched the 2nd gen threads and have had no luck finding what I'm looking for. The 3rd gens can upgrade from a 26 to a 34/35 and its plug and play. I'm looking for something like that for my truck. I have a single cab shortbed 98 Ram sport 4x4 with a 5.2L. It has a 26 gallon tank. I bought a tank that is a 34 from a local salvage yard and the straps line up, the filler neck lines up, the fuel pump connections line up, but the new tank is 10 inches too long. The transfer case is in the way. The part number tank that I got is 52102241AD. Does anyone know of a tank that will bolt right in without any modifications? If there is another 2nd gen thread about this I would appreciate a link to it.

Reg cab trucks can't upgrade the tank. There is no drop in replacement. If you had a extended cab the 34 gallon tank would fit.

This.

I have an extended cab, short bed 4x4, with the 34 gallon tank. It's a tight fit.

This isn't quite true, but close. I have a regular cab truck, but I do have an 8 foot bed, so the frame is longer to accommodate the larger fuel tank.

That is what I thought but didn't want to put false info out there. Before I joined here I just read the forums and a lot of false information led me down the wrong path lol

I appreciate all of the replies, even if they confirm what I didnt want to hear. Does anyone know of an aftermarket tank that would fit? I'd like to stay away from doing a bed mounted auxiliary. I know of a company that makes custom tanks but dont want to take that path due to cost and hoping I dont sent in a bad measurement and get a tank that wont fit.

OK sorry about draggging it up again but I want to be sure I understood.

Mine is the single cab with 8' bed. I think my tank is 31 or 32 gallons.

Haven't driven it much lately and noticed dripping off the bottom of the tank onto the driveway the other day. Kind of wierd it just leaks on warm sunny days. Gas dripping from somewhere above where I could see. Maybe I have a leak.

Found a 34 gallon on ebay for a '94 1500.

Guess having another 25-30 miles of range wouldn't hurt anything.

I looked in there and I have quite a bit of room between the front of my tank and the transfer case.

Do you guys thing a 34 gallon off a 94 1500 will easily bolt on to my truck?

My '96 truck is a standard cab with an 8 foot bed and has the 34 gallon fuel tank in it. No issue at all with the fit.

I have a 96 extended cab short bed 4x4. Got a bigger gas tank from a 98 dodge ram. The gas tank strap in the front of the tank don't line up with existing front strap location. Any help or ideas would be very much appreciated. Thank you
