Operating temperature after 180 thermostat
Hello all
I just got done putting in all new sensors and thermostat in a 1995 ram 360. I was told all this would help keep the truck happy.
I have gone though a lot of the post to make sure I do t miss anything from air in the lines to leaks and so on.
But one of the things I wanted to see about is what the operating temperature should be after I put in a 180 thermostat? The gauge still shows about 200 on the dash and a small spike at about 205 or so. But wanted to make sure this was right.
The parts that I got for the truck are all from O’Reilly The thermostat was a Murray (3358) and the sensors are both master pro.
so I guess I just wanted to make sure everything is right since I really do t want to do this again it was fun but would rather not do it again.

Stant is the best thermostat. Different year and all but my 99 shows pretty much 180 as much as I can guess on the gauge. Going down hill it cools off but never goes near what the stock 195 showed. Been running 180 for about 15 or more years.
Snap-On MT2500, or MTG2500. Prices are coming down, but, they are getting rarer too..... Just make sure it has all the cables/adapters/personality keys you need.

Sounds about right to me, I had 180 for the last 15+ years. If you watch the gauge when it's warming up it will go to about 200 then drop slightly when the t stat opens. After it get up to temp it pretty much stays around the 200 range. You might want to try one of
for your phone that tells you live data.

Hello all and thank you
i just got done re burping the truck to make sure I got all of the are out but I still thing I have air in the heater core but I know that is a booger to get out. The truck seems to keep temp at about 200 per the gauge. I plan on taking it for a drive today but after I got done doing all the work pulling the thermostat and sensors my new headliner just came in so I am now doing that. So I hope to be able to drive it tonight.

Hello again
Ok well, it still seems like it is running hotter than it should since it has a new 180 t-stat in it. The gauge is running at 200 still
One of the things that I did notice with putting in the new sensors for the two different coolant temps is that the new ones are a lot longer than the old ones that came out of the truck (well I think they are the original ones so things have hanged) so could they be hitting the bottom or something. I didn't really force them down just with the wrench hand tight but it still felt like it had room to go.
I know I really need to find a scan tool but 350 to 400 is a lot considering you can buy one that goes to your phone for 20. But the price you pay to have old trucks. LOL
