Do you have a speedometer sender on the rear housing of your transfer case (held in by a bolt and a half moon meta retainer) where an electrical plug goes into it? The "thing" (#33 in the diagram) being discussed may be the drive for the speedometer pinion shaft that's in the speedometer sender. I believe the speedometer sending unit was done away with in 1998.
Unfortunately as I look now those notches are pretty important as they hold the snap rings that hold the speedo gear in place which means I also need to source a pre 98 output shaft for this transfer case or I get sketching and make my own notches.

I dunno if they're the same from NP241DLD to NP231 but I can sell you this one and ship it to you if it'll work. We can keep it affordable for you, not looking for a mint.
The Sonnax transfer case saver is the same across the 31 and 41 so all the diameters might be the same.....?
Otherwise, yeah, I'd throw it in my LeBlond and grab a grooving tool but you'd need to know exact locations and minor OD's

What is "it". I have been trying to find parts diagrams and shafts from a 94-97 vs 98-01 and I can not find a difference. I cant find any special gear that sits in there so I might end up taking the tail shaft off the one thats currently in the truck to see whats going on in there. I would like to make this one just be able to drop in if I need to use it vs having to figure that out when the truck is down. Thank you for all the help though. It has been very helpful

Update on my transmission issue. I dropped pan changed fluid and filter. Now to the part I deserve to be s$*t on for... I don't know why but I'm guessing when I put this engine in I looked at the dip stick wrong for where the level should be and way over filled it... I went to the ripples in the dip stick instead of the correct lines.... so story short changed fluid/filter nothing else. Filled to the correct level and tested. To nobody's surprise with the correct fluid levels it shifts like a dream.... so moral of the story is I didn't pay attention and I was the one that caused the whole issue. So now I deserve to hear what everyone has to say about that.
