Default Trans/T Case Clunk

2000 Ram 1500 46re 4wd. It's making clunk when I go from reverse to drive. Also when I accelerate from a stop. Definitely sounds like the t case area. It's just a single clunk. Drives fine. Here is a video going from reverse to drive. Both rear u joint just replaced. I'm hoping at worse just the t case. Used ones are relatively cheap and I've already replaced it once 🙃 https://youtube.com/shorts/x8AcT51--o4?feature=share

There is a fair bit of slop in the driveline.... between the t-case, the rear diff, a bit of a clunk when putting it in gear, or changing from reverse, to drive, or vice versa, isn't unusual.

the only part that concerns me is when I take off from a stop and it makes the noise. Did you listen to the video? It's pretty audible. If I had to guess it's slop in the t case chain. Can't really think of much else it could be. Don't know enough about automatic transmissions.

The chain really isn't doing anything when you are on the road. It's just basically along for the ride. Most of the slop is in the gears in the t-case, and the rear diff.

It's fairly pronounced in your vid... should be pretty easy to localize that to where it is coming from. Watch the rear driveshaft, see how much if moves when you put it in gear.

Yea unfortunately it is a bit pronounced. I was sitting next to a car so it made it even louder. It's definitely does not sound like the rear differential area. I know when I had the driveshaft out for the u joint there was some slop when it was in park but I thought that was normal. About the same slop as my Jeep had. I did replace the pinion seal months ago but I was very careful getting it back where it was. Maybe it came loose but I'll have to check. Still feel it's in the t case

Could the shaft walking in the transfer case due to a broken snap ring at the rear bearing possibly cause a sound like that?

I put a t case saver kit in there when I put the used t case in. I'll get under and look after work. One time when I was justndown there a trans mount bolt came loose so maybe it came loose again. Or I'll end up pulling my driveshafy for the 8th time in 7 months.... ugh

I'm about to install the Sonnax 100420-02K retainer kit into my 241 DHD transfer case to help keep it alive.

Let us know what you find with your issue.

well here is a video of the driveshaft when changing gears and stuff. Thoughts? I expect some play but I just don't like how it makes noise when I move forward at the end.

How is your pinion bearing in the rear axle? Any play there with the driveshaft removed when turning the yoke or any side to side or for and aft play in the yoke?
