The NV4500 are getting fun to find on the used market.... they are available as reman, or new though. (and pricey too....)

The NV231 will work. If you blow it up, get the 241.

Output or input shaft spline count?

Input shaft count, tbh I haven’t had much time with manuals, so I don’t know what parts I need, just the basic names ie; flywheel, clutch disk, pressure plate etc. But I don’t know what parts I need to be matching up for them to work

I seem to recall that the 241 transfer case could have a different spline count depending upon which transmission its going behind. You're going to need to know spline counts of the shafts to ensure that you obtain parts that will fit and work together.

It actually depends on the year halfway through 00 they went to 29 spline

Good point, at least for '02 it was 23 or 29 spline input on the NP241. A/T was 23, M/T was 29 IIRC

You can swap this by swapping planetary assy's, or even take the planetary apart and just swap the input itself. But at that point you've got the t-case basically 100% torn down

Was it by the trans? Or the engine it was sitting behind?? I think the diesels had larger output shafts, didn't they???
