Default 99 Ram 1500 starts and dies almost immediately

Hi there,
I’ve been in extreme need of help. I’ve been chasing this problem around for over a year now. When it first stopped running the night before it would sputter then buck and sometimes would stutter and die. I’ve replaced the plenum gasket with the Hughes engines replacement kit and well as changing the IAT Sensor, the IAC sensor, throttle position sensor, distributor cap, rotor, spark plugs, pcm, instrument cluster, and both upstream and downstream O2 sensors. I’m at a loss honestly. I just want my truck back up and running please somebody help.

How is fuel pressure? And I hope those were genuine mopar sensors. These engines really don't like the aftermarket fellers. Sometimes you introduce more problems than you were trying to solve. Especially with the IAC..... (cam and crank sensors are also rather critical, and you shouldn't use ANY aftermarket parts there.)

It has good fuel pressure. And they are. I don’t like many aftermarket brands.

Good Choice.

Problem you run into here is, one of your sensors is failing..... but, not setting a code. So far as the PCM thinks, everything is hunky dory. It *might* be a crank sensor problem, but, them fellers are not inexpensive.

So you think it might be the crank position sensor? When I took off the leaking plenum gasket I also changed the upstream O2 sensor and it was carbon fouled like no other so I was hoping that fixed it, but I’ll have to see what a new sensor would do.

So I went out today and started it. It ran for about 3-4 minutes then randomly shut off. Yesterday when it was running it was rather immediate. I ended up starting it back up and when I was sitting there going through the gears it stalled as soon as I put it in neutral. Not quite sure what that means, but hopefully someone will know.

Will it start right back up? If you feed it a little throttle, will it stay running?

Sometimes it starts right up, sometimes it needs a little gas, and other times it won’t even start just cranks. Now it’s throwing a code, but I won’t know what it is till tomorrow. I ended up losing my scanner so I’ll have to get a new one.

What year is your truck? Might be able to do the "key dance" to pull codes. It will either flash the check engine light, or, display the codes in the odometer. (if you have the LED/LCD feller.) Just turn the key on, off, on, off, on, and leave it. (don't try and start it.)
