Correct... The Rango and kota 46res are the same as long as the years match and obviously the motor that's in front of the re match.

It's actually proven to be somewhat difficult to find a wrecking yard that will let me pull the transmission pan due to not allowing oil spills and the people selling parts cars don't want me to just take the transmission harness, it's either whole tranny or nothing.

I think I found an alternative: https://www.ebay.com/itm/25425481350...AAAOSwlONc9--n

this is a "

1996-1999 A500 A518 46RE Transmission Overdrive and Lockup Solenoid w/harness "

Can anyone confirm if this is the harness I need?

That does indeed look to be it.

Finally got the parts in. There is a bit of confusion in regards to which parts are needed.

I ordered the above harness, and the solenoid kit. I was able to replace one of the parts without having to swap the harness (the one that has the bracket) but there was a brass type part with the kit I wasn't able to find where it went since the place where it looked like it was suppose to go, was a black plastic part with a different style connector.

Is the black component the governer pressure sensor or the solenoid? Also, it looks like I have to take the valve body off to get the old harness of

Edit: just watched a video and it looks like I can get away without removing the entire valve body. Looks pretty straight forward from here. My only concern is the newer style sensor does not have the retaining clip to hold it in place, is this necessary?

thanks

When my transmission rebuilder did the swap, he did remove the valve body to replace the harness. He did the swap pretty quickly in less than 20-30 minutes on his back in my driveway.

I was able to get the harness on without removing the VB. All it was was three torx bolts and the body that the harness bolts to slid out now waiting on the retaining clip.

For anyone who will be doing this themselves.
Parts required:
1996-1999 A500 A518 46RE Transmission Overdrive and Lockup Solenoid w/harness - ebay $54.00 total
For Dodge RAM1500 1996-1999 4617210+56041403AA Governor Pressure Sensor Solenoid $57.00 total
Genuine Mopar 4617219 RETAINER-Transmission Governor Trans $18.00 total

general outline:
Remove trans pan, and governor body, then remove the cylinder shaped component held by three torx bolts (see
for full details) replace "old" harness with "new" (old style harness or vice versa) re-install, install all sensors and solenoids making sure to use the retaining clip ordered as the 2000+ did not use the retaining clip. Also noteworthy, some modification to the heatsink on the governor body will have to be done so the older style sensor will work with the newer style heat shield

Hey guys, wanted to give you an update:

got everything bolted back up and now I have overdrive and the trans temp light is off. A peculiar thing is now happening, the check engine light is on and the codes are for the two sensors I replaced. Any thoughts?

I forgot to ask the workers at the autoparts store when they tested it, but I know they were associated with the parts I had just replaced. I will go back tomorrow and get the actual codes
