Default Power steering belt bypass?

I’m wondering if you can just bypass power steering, my pump locked up. If so, does anyone know what size?

Try to drive it without power steering is a real workout. I would not want to do that for very long, or very far. Replace the pump. Otherwise, you are going to end up replacing other parts as well.

Will it cause damage to other parts or will it run fine without it? I tried taking off the hard line and return line and they wouldn’t come off. Friend also rounded out the hard lines nut lol.

Those nuts should only be removed with the appropriate sized flare nut wrench or crowfoot wrench. Otherwise, if they are in there tight, a standard open end wrench will round the corners in short order unless you are really, really careful.

I imagine your box will wear prematurely (perhaps quite rapidly) without fluid flow....but maybe not.

For sure steering effort will be considerable; once manufacturers figured out p/s they also figured out they no longer needed to build vehicles such that they could practically be steered without the power assist. eg steering wheels are smaller, placement of linkages and pivots/fulcrums changed and gearing ratios within the steering gear were adjusted.

I haven't reviewed belt routing to see if the pump could actually be bypassed, but I think so?

The pump ain't THAT difficult to replace. If you take your entire accessory bracket into AZ or O'Reilly they should help you pull and reinstall the pulley. All of my local stores do.

What is OP's location? Maybe there's a board member near?

In looking at the routing on this '00 5.9 gas I suspect you might have a difficult time maintaining good belt tension- esp on the water pump - if you deleted the p/s pump

If you can't get the lines off and there's room, I've had success in the past removing rounded bolts and nuts with a pair of vice-grips.
