What Gear ratio for 1995 Dodge ram
Im putting a Mopar 360 in my truck and expecting 400-600hp The truck is going to be leveled and i dont know what size tires yet. What gear ratio would be best. Personally i was think 3.92 or somewhere around there. I got on one website and they didnt even have an option for matching gears in the front and rear only matching gears they have is 4.11
3.92 gearing is what was used in Dodge SST and ORE trucks. Is this a Ram 1500, 2500 or 3500 truck? If you're running a 4WD truck, the front and rear differential gear sets must be of the same ratio. It would be very helpful to know what size tire you're going to run (its overall height is the most important measurement), as the tire size has an impact on the gear ratio you chose, in addition to selecting the correct pinion gear to go in your transfer case to have your speedometer read correctly. You also may want to consider running a limited slip unit in the rear to ensure that both rear tires are pulling when taking off from a stop light.
I'm running 4.10 gears in the front and rear Dana 60s on my Ram 2500 4x4 (stock gearing was 3.54) with 33" tall tires along with a PowerLoc limited slip unit in the rear. At 70MPH, I'm running just a bit over 2000 RPM in overdrive and the motor & I are happy. 3.54 gearing was extremely sluggish when taking off from a stop light with 33" tall tires, so I decided to re-gear the truck with 4.10 gearing. Since Dana 60 gears are very beefy, I decided to purchase used 4.10 gear sets off eBay (pretty cheap compared to new gears and plentiful, since Dana 60s were used in Dodges, Fords and Chevys) and have a friend I know that does driveline work set them up for me. The used gears worked out great and I'm very happy with the 4.10s.

I'm running a 33 on my 96 and am planning to do a 3.92 swap. Mostly because I want to get a 3rd gen rear axle for disc brakes and there's no such thing as a solid axle 3rd gen 1500 so I can use the ORE 3.92 front axle or gear set, however my truck is only a toy, no really plans for it
Just something to keep in mind, not sure how long the 9.25 will take 600hp in a racing truck, maybe they're beefier than I think, but diesel trucks blowing out dana 70s and even 80s without trying to hard, (Yes I know, Torque) but still leaves with not alot of faith in it
As I finish typing this I guess it never dawned on me you might be running a 3/4 chassis, I just started assuming based of my project, but I'll leave the statement anyway

So when did 3.92s become an option? I don't know alot about SST truck but I assumed they were all 2wd

So far as I know, it was always an option, but, not many folks asked for it.
I wouldnt considered a "race truck" has full interior. from the outside you wouldnt know until you hear the cam
im gonna run the truck until something brake then fix whatever broke with better parts. Like im putting it on a stock nv3500 dont plan for it to last long but its all i got at the moment looking for a nv4500 at the moment and a better rear end. but when it brakes ill replace it until then imma run it. Eventually going to cut out the middle of the bed mostly, bed cover, get rid of the tail gate and put a fuel sail in the bed. Might turbo later on too idk for sure that will be a while from now
