1997 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 5.9 gas
Hello, I have a 1997 Dodge Ram truck with the 5.9 gas and automatic trans. I have about 207,000 miles on the odometer but the trans has been replaced with a used one. When I installed this transmission it ran perfect except for overdrive (fourth gear) It shifts through gears 1-3 perfect and seems to only shift into overdrive sometimes. I went ahead and relplaced gov pressure solenoid, gov pressure senosr, and overdrive solenoid with brand new ones. It started out good the first two days shifting through all gears than went back to only shifting into overdrive sometimes. when I say it only does it sometimes I mean it tries to but dosent. What I mean by that is it will stay in third gear at 70 when I take my foot off the gas it drops in rpm to 1000-1500 and when I hit the gas it revs back up to 3000 where third gear left off. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I should say before I replaced the solenoids it did the same thing, but I thought I had fixed it since it shifted through all gears 1-4 just fine for two days. Its just odd that one day it shifts good and the next it decides it only wants gears 1-3, again this happens with both old and new solenoids. I should also say it goes back and forth between shifting through all gears 1-4 and only shifting through gears 1-3. Any help much appreciated, thanks for your time.

Worse case, sounds like there may be issues with your overdrive unit on that transmission. Luckily, you can remove the driveshaft, then the transfer case and the overdrive unit unbolts from the transmission. The overdrive unit can be rebuilt standalone and re-installed onto the transmission. You see them regularly on eBay.
Thanks AtomicDog ill check those out worst case. 95Ram360 do you have any advice on how to get throttle cable adjustment correct? I have adjusted it when I put it the transmission but I do not know how the factory says to do it. HeyYou the transmission came-out of another 1997 if I remember correctly. It also has a aftermarket torque converter with a sticker on it with the date 2019.
A little update, the TV cable was adjusted just like the video said already. So I cleaned up some ground wires I saw in the engine bay and it started shifting perfect, I than decided to clean up any more I could find and thought it was fixed. Well I took it for a drive later in the day and it started not wanting to shift into fourth again.
