Default 2001 Ram 1500 5.9

I have read some horror stories on here lol. Maybe I just got lucky. My PCM went last year with a "no bus" issue. I took the PCM out my yard truck (5.9) and it ran fine, even with a 0601 code. I just knew though, that it would be trouble inspecting in NY. Well, after some miss fire issues this weekend, plugs/wires ect replaced.. I was like, try the PCM from the 2001 5.2 I have here.. After hearing that truck might run, but not that good, nor inspect, I figured, why not.. Well, the truck runs perfect, and, started to clear monitors. YES, it did in fact pass NYS inspection today with flying colors.. So did I just get lucky? No vin mismatch, or anything.. not even a BLIP on the NYS inspection computer.. I mean, I was 10 months out of inspection due to a known PCM issue.. took a shot in the dark, and well..

Didn't whine about the VIN mismatch?? That's truly odd. I think you got VERY lucky. Have you bought your powerball ticket yet?

According to every thread I looked up, this is supposedly NOT supposed to work.. I mean, the fuel trims are slightly different, and the advance is a slight hair different. Pulled plugs from right bank and left bank. Not running lean. tons of power. like a race truck now lol

So long as the PCM is in closed loop, O2 sensors will correct fuel mixture. Your fuel trims should show that the PCM is adding fuel. You may run into trouble at large throttle openings, or on a cold engine though, as in open loop, the PCM just runs off of pre-programmed tables, and those are gonna be a bit lean for your 5.9.
