Default 96 V10, headlights and turn signals dont work

Having issues with my headlights/turn signals/front stereo speakers. About 10 years ago I couldnt turn my headlights on because the dash would start smoking. I finally replaced the headlight switch (was about $25 at the time) and it fixed the problem. Then a few years ago I noticed my speakers would go on and off when I turned to the left. I was driving thru Canada to Alaska and the headlights just went out. Turned the headlight switch on and off a few times and it came back on. So now I can pull the blinker switch and the brights come on without turning the key on or pull n the headlight switch on? Plus now the turn signals quit working? I tried the flashers and they work. I checked all the fuses and none were blown. Checked both fuse boxes, the one under the hood and the one in the cab on the side of the dash. Found a few crusty grounds and sanded to bare metal, dielectric greased and refastened. Still no headlights or turn signals. Headlights only work when you pull the blinker lever to turn on the brights? Priced a new headlight switch and they are up to $80 to $100! 4 to 5 times higher then they used to be. However, it looks like the new switch comes with a wiring pigtail and shrink wrap. My old switch melted. I unplugged it and plugged in the new one and everything was fine for a few years.
I can smell what smells like burnt or burning wires at times? Arent electrical problems fun! Oh joy!

Headlights coming on with the high beam switch is normal. That's the 'flash to pass' feature.

Pull the switch, and have a look. They are notoriously problematic. You can solve a fair bit of the issues by using one of the 'heavy duty headlight harnesses'. The switch then just controls a couple relays, so, load on the switch is dramatically reduced. (and your headlights are brighter too.....)

Roger that HeyYou. How did you know the headlights are extremely dim when they function properly? I drive with them on bright and nobody ever flashes me! I bought new bulbs some time ago. Be a good time to change them as well!

The dodge headlights suck. The housing yellow, the switches burn up, etc. I replaced the housing, new Sylvania SilverStar bulbs, and the heavy duty harness from LMC truck. Reaimed my headlights after putting all the new stuff in, and they are actually pretty good now.

The headlight lenses are so yellow, many times I have actually wondered if my headlights were even on? Especially after a cold adult beverage!
I purchased the silver star replacement bulbs as well. Plus have a lense polishing kit. Now that its winter up here its dark by 4:30 so its time to fix them! I had to install hydraulic steering on the boat today. A rare sunny 46degree day!

I find it amusing it was warmer in ALASKA than it was in Michigan today. Our high was something like 33*.

I just replaced the housings, as the polishing kits work for a while, but, in a year or three, they are yellowed again. I get my headlight housings from AM-autoparts.com... The set I put on my 96 still looked brand new when I sold it 8 years later. I did the same on my 98, and they still look brand new as well. Think I've had that for six years now??

The heavy duty harness really makes a difference though, and reduces the load on the headlight switch. Both GOOD things.

After you polish them you use a headlight clear coat and they won't yellow again

I've heard that song and dance before. No personal experience though, just hear-say. I go for the new ones, so I just don't have to worry about it, and they really aren't that expensive.

I have seen people use it (Southmain auto) and he swears by it. Personally I go HID and LED on headlights :b

I have been looking for New replacement LED headlights and taillights but have this 105 year old boat that seems to get all the attention! The spare prop takes up the entire bed of the V10 dodge!

I see that wiring harness on LMC truck is only $30! I will order one. Found my headlight polish kit. I know I have already used it once on these lights. It doesnt last very long! Cheap temp fix!
