Default High beam on sort of with fog light

For a while I’ve noticed that my high beam indicator on the dash is dimly lit on the dash with the fog lights on. Today I had the fog lights on with the running lights but no headlight and noticed the high beam was dimly lit on the bulb. Anyone know where this short could be occurring?

Backfeeding via the ground most likely.

I was going to say the same thing last night but refrained because I typically hate vague responses like this, but my first instinct is a faulty/failing ground somewhere. I'd be more helpful if I could tell you where, but I have no idea.

it’s all good I figured it would be a failed ground but I was hoping it would have a more definite location, oh well

Take a look at the grounds for marker lights and such in the wiring diagrams. That will tell you exactly where to look. I have also seen multi-filament bulbs, with one broken filament, cause a backfeed situation as well.

interesting, I assumed it’s somewhere in the system that shuts off the fogs when high beams are on

Fogs are controlled by a relay. That is indeed controlled by the headlamp beam select switch. But, go for the easy stuff first, if you need to dig deeper, cross that bridge when you come to it.

I’ll check that relay then
