If you are only playin' with one, and have a laptop, then tuning software from folks like HP Tuners works REALLY well, and lets you shuffle stuff around within the tune. I don't know if it also does ABS or SRS.....
hp tuners makes a scanner that supports these trucks? I might get one of those depending on price. I’ve heard great things about their stuff

they write software, not sure they have a tuner, per se.

i plugged it in and it went to decode the vin. It failed to do that but I wasn’t super concerned about it so I continued. I went to have it scan each vehicle function controller (PCM TCM ABS SRS) and it said
“not installed” for all of them. It bothered me a bit but the appearance of them wasn’t necessary for reading live data. So I went to live data and could only get basic functions that would appear on the gauge cluster. (Rpm wheel speed oil pressure) strangely it did show O2 and TPS, it also had fuel trim and timing advance but there were no values for either.
i went for a drive to see if what was available would show me anything. The truck drive great until it wouldn’t go into first at all. Not manually not automatically. When this happened I lost OBD scanning and the scanner kept reporting not connected and the truck wouldn’t automatically go below 3rd gear.
All of this just to say it seems like a PCM problem but feel free to give your input.

That is odd..... If you can, just get a junkyard PCM, and see if symptoms improve. SRS and ABS lights may stay on due to VIN mismatch... but, if it's a good PCM, it *should* run the engine/trans just fine.

when I get a chance I’ll head to a junk yard and pick one up. I need specifically a 5.2 pcm correct? A 2500 5.9 won’t work?

Look at the part number on your original PCM and find a match at the salvage yard.

On a sticker on the PCM itself. May mumble something about "authorized software update", or some such. A PCM for a 5.9 would probably 'work', for certain values thereof..... but, would run the engine rather rich in open loop.
