Default 46re taking off in third sometimes

99 ram 1500 4x4, i have one code shown in the photo below.

sometimes the truck shifts perfectly, drives like nothings wrong, other times it won’t go down to first at all but will go down to second manually. Sometimes it will shift to first and second manually. This code keeps coming back but it has brand new electronics fluid and filter. Just can’t figure out what is going on.

Still the original governor pressure sensor/solenoid? If so, change em out, get the Borg Warner HD solenoid kit. Adjust the bands while you are in there.

What did you replace the electronics with? Sounds like you got a marginal one right out of the box.......

Here is one kit.

I got it on Amazon with new wiring because my transmission was for a 00/01, I got it on eBay, it was sold by shiftrite. The fluid that I was using was the wrong stuff so it’s possible that the fluid clogged the solenoid and or sensor and is throwing everything off but it had been running just fine for a while

Ooops. Need to make sure you get as much of the old fluid out as possible then..... Then I think I would change fluid again at 150 miles..... and again at 300..... Without a flush machine, it simply isn't possible to get all the fluid out.

I changed the fluid 3 times with Val online ATF4 and it had been working for a while and I thought I got everything out. Last fluid that came out looked perfect, no metal and no gunk

Should be golden there then. Do you have a scanner that can read live data? If so, see what governor pressure is doing as you accelerate.

I have been wanting to get one, picked a not too expensive one out on Amazon but not sure if it works on these trucks. Do you have a not crazy expensive one that you recommend?

I've been out of the game too long to have a good recommendation. There is a LOT out there on the market, some better than others...... Generally, the better they are, the more expensive they are..... typical eh? But, to get one that does all the cool tricks, you are looking at thousands of dollars.... but, it will work on most OBDII vehicles..... If you are only playin' with one, and have a laptop, then tuning software from folks like HP Tuners works REALLY well, and lets you shuffle stuff around within the tune. I don't know if it also does ABS or SRS.....
