Fortunately or unfortunately, the 46RE is the result/evolution of the original 727 transmission (used since the 1960s) being computerized (by adding solenoids/sensors) and having overdrive added to it. On top of that, the 46RE changed some during its run in trucks from '96 - '01. It's tough to keep things real simple when changes keep happening.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3J1ErheBwHE. This video is really good with the step by step
This is the series I used about 4-5 years ago to rebuild mine. Watch the series first all the way through there are important things he recommends to replace parts. There is no Sure Cure Kit anymore except for New Old Stock (NOS), they were discontinued and replaced by the Sonnax Zip Kit. I tried every place to get a Sure Cure Kit, ordered 2 times and 2 Zip Kits showed at the door this was 4-5 years ago. I used one of them. I put a performance rebuild kit in it for (because I Wanted it). I also rebuilt the valve body and put a mid-stall converter in. I don't know how they drive normally. I bought the truck from a good friend and drove home, no problems. The next day brought it over for a smog check, passed, but the trans crapped itself pulling away from station. It had 86,000 miles on it. The reason for rebuild on VB rebuild, there was 1 screw hanging down about 1/2 inch and 2 were finger tight next to each other. Probably why the OD and main body had burnt clutches. The kit I used had a power pack for the OD clutches. 1 extra steel and friction.

I have contacted Sonnax for a clear answer on whether the Sure Cure Kit is available or has been replaced with the Zip Kit. If I get an answer I'll post it.

Thanks, That will help me a lot. Was looking at Rock Auto as well seeing what they have.

Doesn't look like there is a valve body rebuild. I am taking that as another kit? Also I have watched his videos a few times and still planning on not only watching again but having my laptop out in garage to be able to look back into the video if needed.

Thanks Guys. This is helping me a lot more than some may think.

Your going to need other parts when you go through the transmission.

I have looked around and seen some kits that come with a lot of new internal parts that cheaper kits obviously don't have. I am looking to stay within a reasonable range but I don't want to skimp either. I am looking to start this job close to summer time so I have the time to save up.
A little history on this truck. It was parked for around 5 years due to transmission was slipping.I replaced the spring and solenoids and adjusted the band and it still slipped so I went on eBay and bought a kit that included the lock out that plugs into harness. This did solve the slip and it has been driving now close to a year till the slipping returned. Rather than trying to band aid it again, I just felt it was time for a rebuild and move forward. I feel comfortable with a straight forward rebuilding. Any type of modifying I would have to see it done to get a better understanding. If that makes any sense?

Internal trans rebuild, valve body rebuild and new convertor. Does that sound correct? I will look and post some links to kits Maybe try and make a few calls on my lunch breaks to get some advice. Thank you so much for helping me.

That is an Alto kit " This kit has all your Friction Plates made by Alto"
Raybestos is a better quality, Search for a kit made by them.

Another link you may find helpful.

Those kits looks to have the same if not more than the website he posted on the video. Cost wise, you get a lot more parts for few more bucks. This is the kit I am looking at https://transpartswarehouse.com/r220...t-1998-02.html. It may be over kill but knowing all that has been replace would be pretty much a new transmission. Even including cost for new convertor and valve kit would be around half the cost of a rebuild by a shop.
What you have posted is helping me out a whole lot. Thanks

High Performance Raybestos GPZ clutches and steels are the hot ticket in rebuilds these days vs. the older Alto stuff.

The kit referenced looks like a well developed performance rebuild kit. Just add a torque converter and you're all set. I found that I went with the 5444HDRV from Precision New Hampton when my rebuild was done a few years ago.

Are you wanting a performance build or stock? What Stage do you want to build, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5? What kind of engine HP/Torque do you have or want? This is what I used 5 years ago plus you have to get a shift kit, the metal accumulators (more than in kit) and misc parts. https://www.ebay.com/itm/27360791595...Bk9SR8i_lYHSYQ
