Shift kit might be responsible for some of that as well.

Only first two gears? Maybe I need to read up on shift kits and what to expect? If they were constant, then I would say that must be normal. I believe once this is running like it should. I should have enough knowledge and understanding to be able to help others.

It was a Zip Kit. It seems to be shifting in a decent range so just going to do normal driving ( ne extreme behavior) and see how it does.

I am going to start another thread on a weird on and off noise since I am looking to see what some may think? You can let me know what you think or what to look for.

Don't fiddle with the the adjustment when you get the new cable in. Follow the correct procedure. With the 1 shim in its going to shift more firmly. You have to get used to the new shift points at the different RPM's. Have you made a spirited run with it? If you are getting all 4 gears and reverse, unless they are slipping, there isn't anything wrong with the transmission, you have to get used to the shift points and your work. The torque converter wasn't stock so throws another variable in the mix. Sooner than later the computer will adjust close to your driving style as HeyYou said.

I haven't did a long run as of yet. It's not slipping and the shifts are doing pretty good so no more adjustments are needed at this point. Now just going to let things settle themselves and just drive it daily. I drive it a couple of days and drive my other truck so either wont sit very long.

I had some slippage in reverse and some hard shifting out of first. I dropped the pan, changed the filter, and filled with new fluid and added Gunk Transmedic. I can't remember if I used one bottle or two. However, fast forward 4 years and still no issues. When doing the work, I did purchase an aftermarket transmission pan that is supposed to help keep the fluid cooler. Over the years, I also replace the pinion gear seal in my rear differential and changed that lube as well. I have seen Gunk Transmedic work miracles over the years for people. It may not be a long term solution, but if you are in a pinch and money is an issue, it may be worth trying.

Sirriggs rebuilt his transmission, his first one and was unsure about his work. For my performance rebuild 1-2 is ok shifting, 2-3 takes a while at times depending how far I'm squishing the pedal, and the same for 3-4. There is a shift kit in his transmission/valve body that's going to change the shifting a bit. Transmission rebuild in a can. I don't like it, but as you say, for a period of time it's OK until funds get available for a rebuild.
