Transmission rebuild is obvious answer
My goal is to get everything needed for this rebuild hopefully by June. Once tore down, then I can inspect and replace anything else as needed. Last time pan was dropped. I didn't find any broken parts or discoloring or metal so that's a good sign so hopefully this time will be the same.
While it's out I can address two stripped out bolt holes from a place I took it to have the fluid changed a long time ago. I just did a temporary bolt and nut to address that issue. I didn't know they did this and of course they never said a thing after a few years when I went to replace the two solenoids and got that surprise. As it gets closer, I'm sure I will be asking some more questions.
This is the kit I am thinking of getting. Do you guys think it's over kill?

Still not sure on valve body kit and convertor yet. Thanks

Do these two cancel each other out in any way? I was looking through parts pile for my truck, and found those two along with couple of sprags and filter kit. I got Sure Cure something like decade ago, and then bought the shift kit few years ago. Need to pull the trans because torque converter seal leaks every time the engine is running, so I'll be installing those and also going to do overhaul to the trans with Raybestos kit. But that'll be after some major rust repair.

Your going to need other parts when you go through the transmission.

Could you possibly post these kits you speak of? I don't really have any favorites since I'm pretty much in the process of learning here.lol. I'm going to speak with the daughter bf about a good time that would work with him on the weekend to pull this trans out. It's going to be fun because I don't have a slab to work on so this all will be done on some sheets of plywood but I have done that before in my early years.
My transmission rebuilder installed a Sure Cure kit and a Transgo shift kit in the valve body. I do recall him saying that it took a fair bit of time to install the parts in the valve body. Valve body work is certainly something that you'd want to perform carefully on a work bench, taking all the time you need.
As for the Zip Kit vs. the Sure Cure kit, this link that was provided in another thread notes the differences:

Post #24. Ebay or Amazon has many kits for the 46/47re. Watch the pricing. Pick low to high for prices. One kit will be $250 and reposted again for $500. Get a Zip Kit and don't worry about the Sure Cure Kit. With the SCK you have to buy a reamer to bore out one of the valves. One little slip with the reamer will toast your valve body, keep that in mind if your working on sheets of plywood. Remember the kit I used was a performance kit for $2K current price.
I will stick with the SCK since it doesn't require any reaming. I don't want to take that risk. I am going to use my table top that is for my table saw. It's around 6x 6 so there is plenty of room. I may just go ahead and laminate the top for a good clean level surface.

Thanks. I was reading in the reviews this kit ( eBay) doesn't come with O/D snap right or rear band ( I didn't see it either) I thought in the video I watched that the snap ring is known to break in these transmissions.I'm curious. I believe picking the kit is harder than the rebuild it self. lol

My kit it didn't come with a snap ring, I had to order one separately. The Zip Kit doesn't have to be reamed. I took my valve body apart and put in new springs, valves, *****, etc. After it was all back together then I did the Zip Kit. With the kits you have to look at the parts list. Look at the 2nd or 3rd picture too. I spent all this money on mine and then got a $150 mid-stall torque converter from Oreillys. When I had my 2002 X5 when I rebuilt that one I put an O'Reiles TC in. No horror stories yet.
