It would be part of a rebuild... If you take it to a shop, they won't wanna just change the snap-ring.. they will want to rebuild the whole trans. Big money. However, if that IS the problem, calling around to the local shops to see if you can find someone willing would be a good idea. Doing it wrong can kill you.

On that, I don't know. Would have to open it up, and have a look. On some applications, that spring isn't even there....... Which I found kinda puzzling.

I remember I was having a issue where it would go in and out on OD. Dropped the pan and the spring was broken in half. I have heard they can break but not show signs for months.
