Dodge ram 2nd gen weird transmission issue!
Hello I am completely new here, but I have searched for a very long time without finding any answer to my problem.
I have a Dodge Ram 1500 1997 5.2L 4WD with 46RE gearbox.
The problem is when the gearbox is cold, for example: I drive away, stop at an intersection and then drive. Then it's like it goes into neutral and the engine revs up,
if I don't slam the brake, the gear is thrown in again. But the gear is in "drive" all the time. After about 10 minutes of driving, the gearbox works as usual, shifts as it should and smoothly.
Probably because it has reached the right operating temperature. But this, as i have said, happens only when the gearbox is cold. Has anyone else had the same problem? And found a solution to the problem? Am very grateful for answers!

Need to be sure and check fluid level in neutral. Park gives an artificially high reading.
When mine was doing that, I changed the governor pressure sensor, and solenoid, along with the output speed sensor, and that solved it. Did a band adjustment fluid/filter at the same time.

Okay, so you had the same issue as me? The governor pressure sensor and solenoid is accesible under the oil pan right? And the speed sensor is on the transmission?
Yeah, governor stuff is in the trans pan. Get the Borg Warner heavy duty solenoid set. Output speed sensor is on the drivers side of the trans. It just screws in, easy to swap out.
Thank you for the help!

Wow, these trucks got around quite a bit eh?
