That transmission calls for ATF+4 fluid. Hopefully, that is what the shop used to refill it.

-3 c really isn't that cold. It gets stupid cold here, well below zero F.

Why the shifter is stiff when its cold out though, that's just weird..... Might try hitting the linkage with some spray white grease..... exercise it a bit, see if it loosens up.
