I really need some help. I've been a reader of this forum for a few years now and have learned a great deal about our 'beloved" 2nd gens haha. Recently my 1996 Ram 1500 4x4 5.2l began to idle up and down constantly while stopped or in park. This isn't the first time this has happened. I have changed the tps, iac and maf sensors numerous times. Just recently I changed the IAC and TPS (Standard brand) along with new O2 sensors (NTK) hoping that would solve the problem but it did not. I chose NTK btw because I read on here that those O2 sensors were desirable for 2nd gens. I have cleaned the throttle body, cleaned the air filter, put a new throttle body gasket on as well. A little over 3 years ago we installed the hughes aluminum plenum because we understood the issues associated with the stock plenum. I am at a loss. What would be the next steps to take to help take care of this idling issues? I followed some of the vacuum lines but they didn't look in bad shape. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!!
Also, I have attached some photos of some data that was pulled from an OBD2 scan. Hopefully this helps!
When you cleaned the throttle body, did you remove it from the truck, unscrew the IAC from it and really clean out the throttle body well in the back of the throttle body where the IAC piston extends into?
I gave it a once over. Maybe tomorrow i'll try to spend some time and clean it better. We've replaced just about all the you can replace. Also, when I installed the new NTK O2 sensors a few days back, it was hard to see but I felt like one of the wires from the harness going to the upstream sensor looked a little questionable. I may take a look at it again just to confirm the wires are in good condition. I read somewhere that you can access the upstream sensor by removing the boot around 4x4 shifter, is that correct or the best way to get a better look? Any other suggestions? Below is a list of things that have been replaced within the last 3-4 years. Thanks for all your help!!
IAC
TPS
MAF
O2 sensors
Throttle body gasket
Air filter gasket
Spark plugs
Coil
Thermostat with new fel pro gasket
Plenum with new gasket
Rebuilt Trans (best its ever been, thank god!!)
Rebuilt motor was installed in early 2000s (only has about 80k on it)
As we all know if you own one of these trucks, you're going to spend money!!
Not sure if you can get it from there or not, but, that would certainly be a LOT easier than reaching up on top of the trans from underneath......
Disconnect the battery while you have the TB off... When you have everything back together, turn the ignition on (not start), count to ten, (don't touch anything) THEN start the truck. It should figger out idle fairly quick.

Sounds good. I’ll check back in tomorrow with an update.

You have a hard time matching the quality of OE parts with the aftermarket. I have seen people go threw about 5 IAC's before they find one that worked. On the other hand i replaced mine with one from auto zone and it's been fine for years. You may want to look at the PCV valve, If it leaks it will cause the idle to go up.
