Fuel Gauge
My fuel gauge is broken. I want to ask if anyone knows of something that can go down into the fuel tank from where the fuel door is? I tried a few different things, nothing gets past I'm guessing the bend in the pipe.
What year truck are you dealing with and what engine size (gas or diesel)? The fuel sending unit is a part of the fuel pump, so if the fuel sending unit is bad, you're going to need to drop the fuel tank to address it.
Truck is a 1995 dodge ram 5.9 diesel. Probably the sending unit in the tank. While I procrastinate about dropping the tank, I tried getting a marshmallow toasting stick down the tank. No way, maybe can't get anything down the tank to prevent syphoning, Trying to put something down the tank for a measurement is not something I would usually do. I thought the stick would go down easier. I fill it up and it's usually around a 1/2 tank. I don't want to run out of fuel. At 1/12 tank I'm constantly mixing new fuel with old fuel. I'm going to have to drop the tank or bring into a shop.
Thank you Adam Dog.
Thank you Adam Dog.
You should have a pretty good idea of your fuel mileage (I will NOT call it economy..... just doesn't fit with these trucks.
) so, you can 'best guess' your range, give yourself a comfy margin (50 miles or so?) and fill up when you are getting close.

There are stick on sensors used for RV tanks that will give you a idea where the level is. Not sure if they will work below freezing temps. https://www.truegether.com/listing.h...9-f4403f1cfb9d
I should have thought of that. @ 20 miles to a gallon. I'll use 15 mph see how that works out.
Thank you.
Thank you.
