Swapped 2000 Dodge Laramie 5.9L to a 1995 engine, now having issues with shifting
So I have a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie 5.9L, and a few years ago I let my brother in law borrow it for a while. Well while in his possession he let the oil run dry and locked up the engine. Instead of buying a new engine to replace it, me and my dad's friend swapped out my engine with his 1995 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9L engine. Dumb decision but it was a cheap fix and I needed the truck fixed ASAP. It ran okay for a while, however, in the last 6 months or so there have been some issues with automatic shifting of gears. Initially, the RPMs would rev up really high and then finally shift. Then it would shift into first and second the not shift into 3rd gear. As of the last few days it wont shift automatically at all. I put it into neutral when it wont shift, then I put it back it drive and revs up then shifts. I already checked transmission fluid levels and they look good. I am considered changing the transmission governor pressure solenoid and gaskets. I know when the motor locks up, it can cause transmission issues but when I originally made the swap, I took it to a transmission shop and the mechanics didn't see any issues. Does anyone have any experience with this? Are there some other compatibility issues or components I should consider when trying to solve the shifting issue. If someone else has a similar thread up please comment the link below.

Im curious if they used the right convertor/flex-plate combo... 94/95 had different weight placements. I dont think it would cause your issue though.
If they didnt set the kick-down cable correctly, it could have burnt something in transmission but you should see that in the pan.
Do not get a 94/95 transmisssion if it goes that way.
