Default Confirming bad CTM?

Near the end of my commute a couple of days ago the chime warning system suddenly went off.
"Slow" chime, no dash indicators illuminated- won't stop chiming. When I got home- turned off ignition, removed keys, closed the door (still chiming) and pulled the negative battery terminal. As soon as I reconnected the battery ground started chiming again. I suppose I can still drive it, but I'd blow my brains out by the end of my commute. It's a 2000, 2500 extended cab, no power options- rubber floor work truck.

Manual indicates either bad CTM or key in ignition switch sense shorted. Since repairing the sense circuit would probably be above my pay grade- replace the CTM and hope that fixes the problem?
Can the CTM simply be removed while I find a replacement (assuming Ebay or boneyard)- or will the truck not run without it?

That'd be a shot in the dark.... If the engine is running, one would hope that the key is in the ignition...... probably a safe bet though.

Did all Gen 2's use the same CTM?

No. There are a couple different flavors, basic, and highline. I don't think the 95 and older had them at all.... but, can't swear to that. You need to get the part number off of yours, then search for one with the same number.

Located the CTM, pulled it.
Ordered a NOS replacement off Fleabay, any problems using the vehicle until the replacement is installed? Starts, runs fine without it. Just want to make sure this module doesn't do anything other than provide certain warnings/reminders.

Got any photo(s) of it that you can share, along with where it was located in the truck?

This is the exact replacement unit ordered:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/255661066197

It was located in front of my right knee, adajcent to the steering wheel column cutout in the dash, sandwiched between two brackets with long self-tappers that pass through the 2 holes in the CTM. Small circuit board with a buzzer, TCM is basically a plastic box that hinges open with the small cb inside.

Anyone know of a reason I shouldn't drive it without the module while I wait for the replacement?
