I need help installing this tranny temp gauge on a 1997 dodge 1500 5.2l

Did it come with a weld-in bung for the transducer??

There is an optional mount for that. It's designed for water temp and go in the block. Adapting it for a trans you may need to weld it to the pan.

can’t I just put a drain plug kit on the pan because I’m changing selonoids this weekend and I can screw this into the drain plug?

If it has clearance above it, and the threads match up, that would probably work.

I don’t plan to put the plug on like the bottom side I want to put it on the side of the pan so the sensor doesn’t hit anything and it will still drain the tranny enough so I’m not pouring fluid all over myself

Even with a drain plug, I find the trans is still more than capable of turning me an interesting shade of red.... I swear it holds onto some fluid until I am under it, then drops it all at once.
