Default Broke my hood hinges I think. Need help

I forgot to close my hood completely and while driving my hood flew up and hyperextended. I had some friends help me close it and now the hood won’t open completely. I think I broke the hinges. If anyone has any advice on how to fix this or get the hood off so I can look at the hinges please let me know.

Hood just unbolts from the hinges, and the hinges from the body. Hopefully, the hinges were the only damage. Should be able to find replacements at your local wrecking yard without too much trouble.

How can I disconnect the hinges if I can’t open the hood all the way? Any ideas? Thank you.

Gonna have to force it...... Just watch that you don't do any (more?) damage to the hood. The hinges are likely trash.

You *might* be able to feel around under there with it open like that, enough to get to the bolts the hold the hood to the hinges. That will get the hood out of the way for the rest of the fix.

Ok thank you. I got quoted at a body shop for way too much and they were saying I’d probably need a new hood and latch. The latch is fine hopefully I don’t need a new hood. I rather do it myself and save the money hopefully it’s not too difficult. I may post more on this thread as I go along.

I prefer to leave them closed as much as possible for removal or adjustment. Stick a block of wood on the core support so it rests on that.

Get a ratchet (bonus points for cordless) with socket facing up and slip your hands in there to unbolt.

This is the best way to remove any hood so it's not sliding back into the windshield or toppling down at the nose once unbolted. Also a FANTASTIC way to adjust alignment.

We have some great pick and pay salvage yards in this area. Even hoods, if needed, aren't that expensive to purchase at a pick and pay yard.

If you have a pick and pay salvage yard in your area, that is likely the cheapest place to pickup a pair of hinges with springs.

As an FYI, you might also find those parts on your local Craigslist or on Facebook Marketplace, too.

Ive used a cherry picker to remove/put on hoods before. Just strap the hood with ratchet straps then run more to the picker. It will hold it in position when you take to bolts out. This was on cars but a truck maybe to high for that.

Bummer. Your hinges are definitely toast. You might be able to unbolt the hood by reaching in the gap. You'll need some extra hands to hold it up as far as possible. If you can unbolt it, there's either 2 or 4 bolts per side, you can lift it off and then remove the hinges. If you can't do that, you might be able to get in with a reciprocating saw and cut the hinges. Hopefully the fenders where the hinges bolt aren't damaged. I wouldn't think so but check them anyway. At least you didn't bust your windshield.

I would get a hood with the hinges and hardware at the bone yard. This will give you the hinges and latch to replace what might have been damaged. Your old hood may be good, but I wouldn't be surprised to find out it's warped with the force of flipping at speed. I've seen them fold over the hood and wrinkle the roof.
