Has anyone installed or considered installing a Y valve and short hose on the heater hose input/output lines going to the the heater core ( right in front of the fire wall)? The basic goal being to improve the efficiency of the AC cooling by not introducing hot coolant to the adjacent heater core inside the cab. I recall reading about this idea somewhere, perhaps not in this forum. Certainly this would eliminate any air mixing function inside the cab, but more importantly could it create a problem with evaporator icing??
In the near future I will be moving this vehicle from Colorado and operating in Florida. I presently have the engine out of the truck. I replaced the condenser and high pressure liquid line mainly because I couldn't get the QD fitting off the line at the condenser and had to hack saw it off. I have also replaced the dryer on the AC circuit. At this point it would be rather simple to install said bypass.
I found it: ********.com/threads/heater-core-bypass-for-a-c-performance.192511/
Personally, I don't experience any issue with A/C cooling in my truck and the truck is over 25 years old. I do plan to rebuild the HVAC box and replace the heater core, A/C core & blend doors. That should keep the truck going well for years to come.
Just FYI, I couldn't review the thread you provided, since the link was incomplete. Can you possibly cut + paste the complete link into the thread?
Where I live in ND the AC has always been good in my second gens, even at 100 degrees ambient with high humidity. If you want to put in a shut off that is totally up too you.
I have… I’ve got a bunch of parts in the shed, but haven’t gotten around to installing them… right now my heater hose just loops back with a joiner (heater core isn’t in the circuit) since I live in Florida and don’t use the heat anyway.
The biggest improvement to A/C efficiency that I’ve found is cab roof insulation and ceramic window tint.
depending what you can buy the parts for, there's really no need for a y valve, just a line shut off would be sufficient. Y valve would be neccesary in a situation wher eyou cant dehead the flow, but heater is the only thing in the circuit, so just shutting it of would be fine.
