Default Heater Core Return

My 98 2500 is leaking bad. It took some time to figure out because the leak was all over the place. After I traced it down to a hose that comes out of the firewall on the passenger side. It looks torn but I can't find it's mate anywhere inside the bay. I bought this truck awhile back and have been working on it here and there. This is my last big problem so far. The circle is my last leak. Any help? Searching for heater core return hoses results in a google mess. Thanks in advance!

If you are losing coolant from there, the heater core is leaking into the heater box. That's the drain for the a/c condenser..... Check your passenger side floorboard. I bet it's wet too.

Your supply and return lines are up near the windshield side by side. Your leak is coming from the bottom where the rain water and a/c condensation drains out. You need a new heater core. Get a good quality brand core as they are a pain to replace. The last Dodge truck heater core I replaced I just took the dash out of the truck. It took longer to remove the steering column, dash assembly and seats but the extra room made the job easier if more time consuming..I also cleaned up a lot of previous work that was done hap hazardly.

Now is the time to clean up the wiring and any blend door issues. You'll have everything apart so why do the work twice.

Just FYI, this heater core is the closest to OE as you can get. It doesn't have the swivel joints in the tubes which could cause a leak down the road - https://www.1aauto.com/jeep-dodge-he...4/i/1ahcc00013

If you're pulling the HVAC box out anyway, be prepared to replace the disintegrated foam seal at the blend doors and HVAC box itself.

In addition, if the truck was previously driven by a smoker, you might want to clean the inside of the box with window cleaner. I used an alcohol based cleaner when I did the last core installation and there was a bright yellow stream rolling out of the plenum. That was all the nicotine that had settled in it. Just like your lungs.

We've all been there. Both with the need to ask questions as well as making the repairs you need to do. I know I've got plenty of scars to show my experience.

It ain't a real job if you don't bleed on it.
