Would this type of sensor/gauge combo plug right into the diagnostic port? I think this one is different than the in line sensor.

Comes with the sensor, but, no clue how the sensor installs.....

 

Sensor has 1/8-27 NPT thread.

 

Screw it into one of the pressure test ports?

 

Just for my own understanding, does anyone have a photo of the side of the transmission showing the port where the transmission temperature sensor might screw into?

 

Although on some quite old posts on this forum folks had suggested others to not do that as something about the temperature of the fluid not being the most exact in that spot and the T off the return line would be better? I guess I’ll do some more digging, thankfully I have ten days or so before I can get to working on this so I have time, just wanted to get my ducks in a row ahead of time

 

You want to T off the line going OUT to the coolers. As close to the trans as you can get, for the most accurate reading.

 

I think I seen an original trans line with the cooler. It just had another piece of tube coming out with the fitting on the end. It was right after the bend coming out of the trans.

 

Yeah, that's for 95 and older with the trans temp sensor. Part of one of the heavy duty towing packages I think. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to use that line on a newer trans though...... That is, assuming you can even find one.
