Default transfer case noise?

I have a 1999 Dodge ram 1500 4 x 4 and the issue I’m having is when I put it and drive or reverse from Park or neutral it takes a second to engage more so in drive than reverse, but when it does engage, it will make a clunking noise. I just recently swapped the transmission and I reused my old transfer case and before swapping the transmission it never had this issue

Is it the trans, or the t-case making the noise? Some chain slop in the t-case is pretty normal, given it's age......

I'm not sure if it's in the trans or transfer case

Came from a running and driving 2001 dodge. It is used 176k miles and the transfer case has 148k miles. I jacked the truck up today and put it in drive and there is a clicking noise coming from the transfer case so I believe that's the culprit

I think you are going to have issues with an electronics mismatch..... I believe they changed in 2000.... though, it *might* have been 99...... Is the check engine lite on? Trans temp lite?

Check the shift linkage for the t-case, and make sure it is fully engaged in 2 hi.....

That's not a transfer case noise. In 2wd it's just a solid pass-through shaft

The trans temp light and O/d off were both on, I temporarily swapped to a 2001 ecm until I get the 99 sensors,I'll check the linkage on transfer case
