Come on someone has to have replaced a rear end before. It doesn't seem that hard and someone on this forum has had to have had this noise before and fixed it. I just need me some help.

If your truck is a 1500 series you have a 9.25 rear end. Do a search of this forum as myself and others have described how to inspect it for problems. If you have a ring/pinion gear problem or ring/pinion gear bearing problem you should just take it to a reputable shop to have it fixed. Make sure it's not your tranny to since it sounds like it was just worked on.

Well about 5 months ago when the transmission first went out, I heard this noise but didn't know what it was but had a clue because this same noise I had he did and it was the rear end. Off the top of your head can you tell me what a 5 speed transmission take, gear oil wise.

Sounds like bearings in the rear. Mine made a howling noise for months. Since I bought it actually. I thought it was the tires. Ended up getting it fixed under warranty. Now that noise is gone but I thinkthe tranny is starting to go. Oh well.

Well that is what my buddy had told me and that is what I had figured was wrong but could it be the ring and pinion gear as well?

I doubt the ring and pinion is going to howl. I'd have to agree and say its your bearings. I'm sure you can buy just the bearings or you can get a Master Install Kit and replace all the seals, bearings, ect. They run you about $100. http://www.drivetraindepot.com

Actually the ring and pinion are more likely to cause a howl in the rearend than anything else in the rearend. The howl would come from eithor improperly setup gears or gears that are wearing weird. A weird wear could be from a messed up crush sleeve.

They wear pretty quickly, so if it was wear you'd think it would stop kinda quickly. But that would screw up your ring and pinion pretty good. [&:] Take your cover and look for grooves or wierd marks on your ring. Also look for metal shavings.

Don't forget the friction addative if you have a LSD!
