i have little acceleration at all in the low rpms.. doesnt feel like it pulls at all in 4th or 5th.. or even low rpms in 3rd.. could this be the death flash thing? i know its some fix dodge did to the timing.. but thats all i know about it

 

Its used to stop ping, which could actually adjust the timing. But it could very well be the death flash! To check look on your PCM. There will be a stick somewhere on it that says something like "authorized reprogram" or something like that. If your not sure take a pic of it and put it on here, or just tell us what the sticker says.

 

I have a 99 dodge ram 1500 with a 5.2 i just got it a few days ago and was wondering what the pcm was so i can see if they did the death flash to my truck.

 

Box on the passenger side fire wall. Look for a sticker that says authorized software update or something like that.

 

Would this be the Death Flash??
I JUST replaced my 5.2L she has ALL new guts now and I DON'T want to have a Ping problem again.

The ones I have seen have always been on the actual PCM. I would check and see what TSB number the sticker below it is referring to.

 

Mine has that sticker and I can still smoke my tires from a stand still with use of the brakes everytime and usually without using the brakes. I don't know if I want to buy a Hypertech to fix it or not.

 

either way a hypertech will improve your program regardles of deathflash... its a usefull tool

 

I Have a sticker that says "Autorized Software Update" on the PCM...but there is no TSB #'s to check to see which update it was, is there any other way i can tell?

 

The sticker for the death flash does not usually have a tsb number on it, at least none of the ones I have ever seen have had a TSB number. I know for certain that I had the death flash, I will take a picture and post it so you know what to look for.
