i have been looking for a way to check codes on 98-99 rams and havent found it up to 97 you can turn your key on-off-on off-on watch the c/e light and the 00-01 same thing on-off-on-off-of and watch your odometer ittl come up as P#### but i dont know how on the 98-99's and no one has been able to tell me yet i have a 98 and would love to know how to do it

pretty sure if you have a digital odometer and a chrysler vehicle it will work.. other then that not sure on other years ... or makes and models...
if you CEL comes on and then goes of... the codes disapear as well...it doesnt keep a memory of what the code was...you ahve to catch it with the CEL on and do the key trick to retrieve the codes...
the old ladys 02 neon does the same thing..meaning the key trick

The dealer can read fault codes with the DRB series diagnostic tool.
98+ Rams do not flash the codes, but on 94-97 Rams, the owner can read the codes this way:

What you have quoted above is partially true. I know they disabled access on the 98 models. Some of it MAY have carried over to early 99 models as well. But there have been 99 owners that have been able to check their codes. 00/01/02hd owners are able to check their codes via the key/odometer method as well.
