Default Clunk when i let off the brakes.

for the last couple weeks if i pull up to a stop, when i take my foot off the brake i get a clunk that is VERY noticeable. i know im not far off from needing new pads on the front, but i have a feeling its coming from the rear drums. what causing it?

First thing I'd check is the front brake caliper mounting bolts. Bad deal if one of them falls out! Just for info purposes, new front rotors are $30 apiece at NAPA, pads are around $30. Easy to change them yourself. I had a local chain auto service center give me a $468 estimate to do what cost me $90, two beers, and an hour and a half.
You could also have a broken return spring in one of your rear brakes.

I get that clunk too from time to time. I know for a fact that it is coming from the rear of the truck, but can't tell where. I am thinking rear brakes, but have never been able to pinpoint it.

new front rotors are only 30 a peice from napa? crap i got ripped off

along with any kind of driveline clunk... check the u joints... how many miles does your truck have and have you had the u joints replaced or are they original... go under neath and see if you can grasp the drive shaft and twist it... if it twists more then a half inch then your unjoints will need replacing...

i think its prolly the brakes or something along that line but never hurt to check the u joints..after seeing what a f150 does with a driveshaft falling out and wipping all over the under careage after a u joint went to come failure.. i always check

I had that clunking noise too. It came from the rear drum, passenger side. A spring had broken. It never made a noise unless it was under pressure from breaking. I figured it was the brake shoe adjusting itself, maybe not. Anyways put new shoes on and the clunk went away. By the way, my front rotors cost me 49 bills each! But then i have a big ol 2500 V10. Still cost me under 160 bucks to do it myself instead of the midas guy charging me $550. good luck locating your issue. U joints always a good thing to check when you got noise in the rearend.

Dude you need to go back there and ask for Vaseline! I don't know how much drums are, haven't done that yet.

i had the same problem with mine, and after changing rotors and brakes all the way around, i think it was due to an uneven spot worn in one of my rear brakes
