I'm hoping someone here can steer me in the right direction. My wife's 2001 RAM 1500 4WD had a 1740 code pop up. Someone told her to change the speed sensor so my father-in-law picked up the one for the rear axle. We changed that this evening, on the ride home the ABS Light and Brake light come on & stay on. And the speedometer stays at 0 until you hit about 20mph. Did we do something wrong when changing the sensor? Or do we need to change the other sensor near the transmission?

I think on your truck, speedo signal is acquired from the sensor in the rear diff. Check the connections to the sensor, and also make sure it is fully seated in the diff. Might have just gotten a bad sensor too.... not like I have never gotten a bum part right out of the box.

Thanks HeyYou....I'll double check the connections. Pretty sure it's seated properly. Could something like getting WD40 or PB Blaster mess up the sensor? Had to hit the old one with that to free it up.

I have a dodge Ram 1500 2001 pick up. I have the following problem: ABS-brake-light comes on after 5miles of driving. What might be the problem? I replaced the PCM, the control module ABS (which is used from a different car), and the rearwheel speed sensor. Any help would be appreciated.

If you have 4WAL, need to get the codes read, and see what it is whining about.

4wal? You need to pull the codes, and see what's going on.

All right I read all these replies, so this is my problem. I've changed the speed sensor, I've checked the wires from the rear, speedo still comes on at 18 mph,abs and brake warning lights are still on. So now what?

Need a LOT more information on your truck.... year, 2 or 4 wheel drive, 2 or 4 wheel abs, color, level of window tint, and a few other things I am sure VWandDodge will come up with.
