Default Manual Trans

My automatic trans is acting funny again. I have had it rebuilt once. Not looking forward to a second time. I have been debating a manual transmission lately. Does anyone know how much it would cost, roughly, to change from a auto to a manual.

Anywhere from $3000 to $5000 depending on where you get your parts from.

It's not so much the cost, but the work that it entails. [>:]

you know what they say about automatic transmissions......it's not a matter of if they're going to give trouble, it's a matter of when......

Before this truck I have always had a manual. And I enjoy them so much more. I do a lot of off roading and besides the better driving experience I think the trans would last longer. I will do a little research and let ya'll know.

I have a 2000 2500 Ram with the 5.9 I heard that any dodge truck transmission is interchangeable with any dodge truck engine, is this true? Obviously I would need pedals and all that junk, but does anybody know if I will also need different driveshafts? What about that stupid truck computer thing? Can I get it reprogrammed or will I have to order a new one?

That is not true. The transmissions from the V10s and Diesels have a different bolt pattern on the bellhousing. They will not work with the other gasser motors. [8D] Also, the older H transmissions will not work with the newer trucks that use E transmissions. And yes, you have to swap your computer. IIRC, you also have to swap the input shaft on your transfer case which means disassembling that as well Either that or you need to get a different T-case. As ryans pointed out, you also need a different column and dash. The dash is technically optional. It's more work & money than it sounds, and Tani has the best idea if you decide to go through with something like this. Find a donor truck that you can buy. That way you'll have EVERYTHING that you need.
