Hi guys,

pinging is usually caused by advanced ignition timing and /or high combstion chamber temperature (temp is controled with EGR valve). If you are running the KN FILTER with the inlet inside the engine compartment, that might be something to try changing. Engine compartment air is higher temperature - and higher inlet temperatures lead to higher temperatures at every stage of combustion.Gasoline engines run an aggressive spark advance curve and rely on EGR to prevent engine ping. If the EGR valve has clogged or stuck (or been blocked by those seeking to improve mileage), the quick advance curve will cause the engine to ping. If all else has failed, verify that the EGR circuit is functioning properly.

I have the Bosch 2's in there right now.

The ping is more of the "oh crap get off the gas" type of ping, it's real heavy and it only happens under heavy load above ~3300 rpms 2nd gear. I dont believe it is related to intake air temps as the filter is shielded, AND i've added more shielding to further isolate the filter from the engine compartment heat. There is no EGR setup on this motor so that cant be a factor. There were 2 thoughs I had, 1 being the fuel pump and the other being iginition.

Until recently, I never thought plugs could be the cause of pinging... my used up NGK's were failing under load causing a low rpm ping in OD. swapped in these plugs and that pinging went away. it ran great for a while until this latest ping showed up again for a 3rd time. I may have mentioned this earlier but i'm gonna go with the tried and true autolite 3923's. they may not last as long as i'd like but at least I know i wont have an issue with them.

here is a link to a thread that has the current setup...

I usualy change my plugs and wires about every 15,000 miles and I have used all the bosch platinum plugs out there in my truck and I have found they do cause our rams to ping. The only time I have ever heard my truck ping was with bosch platinums in my truck. I don't wanna sound like I am bashing on bosh because I use them in my maxima and they are great in it, but for my truck it will never see another bosch plug. Steve I would be willing to bet if you change your plugs you will get rid of your ping.
