Default mechanical question??

I'm pretty sure the hub bearing is going bad on the front driver side of my 01 Ram 1500, its making alot of grinding noises and some metal shavings, problem is I'm at a police academy till the weekend and my garage and tools are 70 miles north of me, so my question is...Is it safe to drive it home and fix it whats the worst that could happen if i drive it home this weekend to make the repairs?? i did the best i could in the parking lot, i pulled the tire and the brakes, when you turn the hub assembly by hand you can feel the grinding in there. thanks for the help in advance.

I would see if any of your friends at the academy have any tools with them. If the bearing is bad enough that its grinding and leaving metal then it is gone. don't drive it.

My friend in his jeep drove it till the hub blew. It cracked his rotors, caliper, and spindle. :-) since his caliper broke, it bled out all the brake fluid. So have fun, bleeding the whole system.

id see if any of your fellow police recruits would drive you home to get the tools and parts.. (call ahead and get them orderd if the parts store is out of stock or doesnt carry it often) and bring everything to where the truck is... it will prolly cost you more in the long run to try and risk the drive home..

DONT DRIVE IT. I was just leaving on a weekend trip to another city when my bearing went. My tire about fell off, it rubbed my knuckle, and had to be replaced and my break rotor was shot too . Cost way to much $ to fix. needless to say my trip got cancled.
