I got a 4.9 too....81 model and still going strong. It actually driving 100 miles round trip a day right now while I fix the 42RH in my dads RAM. It has as much torque as most v8 down low, but it could be alot better if it revved a little higher. Put a turbo or super charger on a 4.9 and you have the perfect economy truck engine.

the 4.9 is one of the best engines ford built. from what my dad has told me, EFI was the best thing to happen to the 4.9 as far as fuel economy goes. i know a couple of people that have 4.9 with 5 speeds and they tend to surprise people a lot, especially those ricers.

dodge use to have the slant 6. that use to be a good and fairly fuel efficient engine.

Dodge has more power and over all beastly-ness than most other trucks of its class. it's a powerhouse , Ive met quite a few people that say they prefer dodges for towing power and such and wouldn't buy any other truck, that said they have they're design flaws lol but dodge is my choice now and forever!

holy crap this is a old thread...but since every other user on the forum has put in there 2 cents here is mine...my buddy has a 4x4 f150 97 i think with the 4.6 and my truck pulls cars on him from a dig from a roll. but he has had to pull my 2wd out of a mud hole...but power wise my 5.2 has tons more power and seems to run smoother. even with my truck having 2 times the miles of his

My 5.2 can match my friends 5.4 in just about everything. We both have 1998 trucks.

The 5.4 in my Expedition is a great engine. I've never had an issue with it.
