Default P0740

i have 97 1500 w/ the 360 in it and Im getting P0740 which is torque converter clutch solenoid circuit malfunction. Does any body know how to troubleshoot this, and where the solenoid is?
Im assuming its on top of the tranny where the average joe has a 4 day job ahead of him.

Here is my Freeze Frame Data:
DTC For Which Freeze Frame Was Stored = P0740
Fuel System 1 Status = Closed Loop
Fuel System 2 Status = Not Supported
Calculated LOAD Value = 37.25 %
Engine Coolant Temperature = 181.4 °F
Short Term Fuel Trim - Bank 1 = -2.34 %
Long Term Fuel Trim - Bank 1 = 3.13 %
Intake Manifold Absolute Pressure = 23.7 inHg
Engine RPM = 2304.00 rpm
Vehicle Speed Sensor = 58.1 mph

The solenoid is inside the transmission. To test it you can ground the signal wire coming from the pcm after second gear and see if the tc locks. If it does then the solenoid is fine. Ground it only after you are in second gear.

Did you ever fix the 0740 code problem???? I have that code popping up now!!!!! Please let me know

hi, I have a 05 2500 4x4 w/5.9 cummings and get the code P1740 and have been in 5 shops for tran repair! Still get the code P1740 but seem to still tow 10k trailer with no prob yet. Any ideas short of swapping truck for two mules? Ciao capy

And a nun......

Try posting in the diesel section. They would be more help I should think, mostly gassers here.
