where do you guys mount your backup lights?
i bought some cheap rectangular 55watt halogen driving lights from walmart($20 for the pair, can't beat that) that i am gonna use as back up lights. can't really find a great place to mount them though.
i had two ideas..
1. mount them on the bed rails all the way up near the cab. they'd be protected from trees and mud, but i dont know how good of light coverage they'd give me
2. this would be a pain in the ***, but would be sick: cut out rectangular holes in my rear bumper on both sides, and mount the lights in the bumper so they line up w/ the holes. i'm very lazy though so i dont know if that would ever get done..
any more ideas?

I think if you mount them to the bedrails by the cab it will only light up the bed of the truck. I thought about mounting mine (when I get em) to the hitch, on the bottom or possibly to the side. I dont think I would lose that much ground clearance with a low profile light.
first off, cuttin a hole into your bumper would look insanely awesome.
but putting them by the cab, they wouldnt light up the ground behind you well. why dont you put them on the bedcaps right by the tailgate? wouldnt look so hott, but itd be practical. (you could probably take them off for daily driving)
but do the cutting into the bumper, itd be incredible.

Just mount them to the bumper. I have some that I got cheap ($8) with just a regular switch that I mounted to my rear bumper between the bumper and hitch. I use them quite regularly to hook up trailers. That is why I went with the switch instead of splicing them in with the back-up lights.
hey are the wires that came with the kit from walmart long enough to make it to the engine compartment and cab of the truck?
just wondering cuz ive been playin around with the idea of doin that also cuz my reverse lights suck and are USELESS offroad.

another place i've seen people mount them is ontop of the axle. looks pretty sick to me. only thing is gotta protect them and have enough slack in the wires.
if you want a switch and to have them wired into the reverse lights, it is pretty easy.
just wire in a relay to control them from the back up lights, and a direct hot through the switch.
hot into switch then to lights
hot into relay then to lights
control wire on relay hooked to back up lights
if you mount them on the axle they are exposed to a lot more damaging vibration and jolting.

the wires that came with the kit are intended to mount them up front...so they are too short to go to the back. i am also wiring these to a switch, so i have manual control over when they're on.
ok guys,i also wanted to get these on today, so i took the crap way and just mounted them to the bumper. i REALLY doubt these will last where they are at, i'm guessing first big mud puddle they are gone. but, if that happens, i will buy another set (only $20) and do the bumper cutouts. the switch i am trying to mount in the ashtray, i plan to have about 5 or 6 switches in there once i add the brushguard w/ 4 lights, roll bar with 5...
here's a quick look at what i got so far. again, if i get a nice boring day i might just flip them over and make holes in the bumper.
