Tranny Filter

RE: Tranny Filter
Too much...I really have no idea, think it's about $7-$9 a quart tho...at work, we use regular DexIII/Mercon fluid with either Everwear or Lube Guard additive...3 or 4 years we've been using these additives and have not had a trans complaint yet. Did a trans flush when I first got my truck, it took care of a 1-2 shift 'slip' and that was 2 months ago.

I bought a tranny filter at Napa a few months ago. It came with 2 gaskets as well. (I've got a 42RE tranny) One fit my pan, the other didn't. I assume the other gasket fit sthe 46RE.

Why 15 quarts? I thought you only need about 3 when you change the filter and gasket and 6 quarts for the whole thing. Thanks

I paid 4 bux a qt. for the Vavoline ATF+4 Synthetic. I bought 15 qt's, Im going to run this stuff through and then another 1500 miles I'll do it again, since the tranny shop put in ATF+3 in the new tranny, and its in the TQ converter and I can't drain that out.

If you only have 1500 miles on your trans since an overhaul or reman replacement your wasting you money on a fluid and filter change. Check your owners manual, it recomends 25,000 mile service interval and so does the service manual. changing fluid and filter early doesn't really gain anything. If you are doing it to go to ATF +4 then by all means change away!!! much better fluid.
