Default Tranny overdrive

Recently purchased 98 1500 4WD with 170k. Transmission constantly shifts in and out of OD during speed of over 45 MPH, even on straight and level roads. Had the fluid changed and the bands are fine as per the transmission shop. The truck has been meticulously maintained and otherwise performs perfectly. Any suggestions and thanks.

Very common for the Throttle Position Sensor to cause this.

The TPS would be the first thing I would look into. Better yet - just go to your local parts store and get a new one for $32 and change it. Takes like 5 minutes to do it.......

definatly replace the tps. its on the drivers side of the throttle body, held on with 2 torx screws. simple to change.

I have kind of a similar problem, though no shifting. If I'm going 65 mph in OD my RPMs are right around 1900-2000. Sometimes my RPMS will slowly creep up to 2300 or 2400 without changing speed, power or gears...then it slides right back down to 1900. TPS?

Ohh crap....please dont say that...LOL. It sometimes does it in drive too...RPMs will slip up a few hundred RPMs and then drop back down wtihout change in power and without shifting gears.

i have sort of the same problem. some times it takes a while for my OD to kick in. then today it worked fine but it was having trouble shifting from first to second. Would the tps do this to my trans or could it be the tcc solenoid i have herd that could cause the problems also.
